Shinas Power Generation starts commercial operation of its plant in Sohar, worth one billion dollars

Muscat (WAF): The Shinas Electricity Generation Company announced the commencement of commercial operation of its plant located in the Sohar Industrial Port, with investments estimated at one billion US dollars (384 million Omani riyals).

According to a media statement issued by the company today, the station began operating commercially in early May, with a production capacity of 1,710 megawatts, and it is the second largest plant in the Sultanate. Its chief executive, Eng. Abdullah Al-Nawfali, stated that "the value of contracts awarded to local companies (amounted) to more than 68 million Omani riyals. "It is noteworthy that the contract for Sohar Power Station, Phase III, was awarded in late 2015 to a consortium led by the Japanese company Mitsui with 50.1%, in partnership with ACWA Power Company with a rate of 44.9%, and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding Company with a rate of 5%.
